Honoring Prof. Fidel Gener Calalang Jr: A Beacon of Filipino Choral Excellence

FASO paid tribute to Professor Fidel Gener Calalang Jr. on Friday, August 15, 2025 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

Prof. Fidel Gener Calalang, Jr. is a renowned conductor, composer, and educator whose work has elevated Filipino choral artistry on the global stage. As founder and conductor of the world-famous UST Singers, he has led the ensemble through 38 international tours and earned over 85 major awards.

Prof. Calalang has received top honors from the League of Filipino Composers, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and international competitions. His works have enriched Filipino choral literature and brought global audiences a deeper appreciation of Philippine music.

As a dedicated mentor, he has shaped the careers of countless musicians and choir directors, inspiring future generations and sharing Filipino artistry across the world. Through his leadership, creativity, and passion, Prof. Calalang continues to be a beacon of musical excellence.
