Songwriting Workshop Registration
Learn the basics and modern techniques of songwriting in this all-day workshop with Arlene "Gigi" Mordeno on Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 9:00am-5:00pm in Glendale, CA. Songwriters of all levels are welcome--beginners, amateurs and professionals. Tuition for this workshop is $50 (lunch is included).
In the first half of the workshop, you will study the basic structure of a song and the modern techniques of getting ideas or inspiration. In the afternoon, you will have written a verse and a chorus, at minimum, and will be asked to present your song to the class. It will be a fun and casual workshop.
Minimum Requirements
We welcome all songwriters of all ages. This workshop is open to the public. Students in this workshop will have the following minimum requirements:
Bring your favorite portable instrument, pen and paper, and song ideas.
Bring a headset or headphones for your instrument, if applicable.
Bring your smartphone or tablet that can connect to the internet.
Be accompanied by a guardian or parent if you are a minor.
About Arlene Mordeno
Arlene "Gigi" Mordeno is songwriter, producer and founder of indie label "Kickabeat Records" with several releases in digital streaming outlets.
Her first hit song, "You", was released in the Philippines by JoAnne Lorenzana in 1986. Her second hit song "Conectados," co-written with Joan Martin, was released in Argentina by Ktrask, La Banda de Cantanino, in the 1990s. Both songs stayed in the charts for several weeks in their respective countries.
In 2018, Arlene’s first artist in her label, Mina Alali, released a single "Something About Her" that made it to the Billboard Hot Single Sales for 7 weeks and charted in indie radio stations. Another single called "22 Cents Less," a pop song about pay equality was a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. "You’re Still There" by Jessica D, a modern gospel song won Honorable Mention in the 2020 International Songwriter Competition. "Broken Glass" by Carly Rhoades was a semi-finalist in the same competition in 2020.
Based in San Diego, Arlene makes it a habit to write at least 2 songs in a month. She is currently on the board of Filipino American Symphony Orchestra (FASO) and is a member of an exclusive song synchronization club for film and tv.
